As God continues to prepare us for Life's Storm in 1 Peter. We are reminded of the awesome truth that Jesus is our example in suffering. In fact, because we are "IN" Christ, we share in his victory where he triumphed over sin, evil & death through his death & resurrection. That's certainly cause to celebrate!!

There's a consistent and reoccurring theme in Bible as it relates to God's people and suffering that goes something like this. Life, more times than we like to admit, is marked with suffering. In this next section of Peter, God wants to prepare his people for the often common storms of life.

Liv’n the Good Life (1 Peter 3:8-12)

Peter exhorts us to raise the bar on relationships. Telling us in essence that a key to "Liv'n the Good Life" in Christ is to improve relationships with others. That's the epitome of "Lifestyle Evangelism".

Man on a Mission (1 Peter 3:7)

Continuing in the section of Peter's letter where he is challenging us to Lifestyle Evangelism in the home. Peter has some counsel for husbands. In short, he exhorts husbands to be a "Man on a Mission". That for sure will be a witness for Jesus.

New Beginnings “Especially for You” (Ruth 2:1-7) – Elaine

Alexander Whyte often told his Edinburgh congregation that the victorious Christian life is a "as series of new beginnings". And was he ever so right. We see a great example in Ruth and Naomi as the Lord gives them a new beginning. For with God, it's never too late to start over again.

Woman of Witness (1 Peter 3:1-6)

Much of our witness for Christ begins in the home. We are in that section of Peter's letter where he is challenging us to Lifestyle Evangelism. That is, being a witness for Jesus through Godly living. Here in the opening verses of 1 Peter 3, Peter instructs wives how they can be a "Woman of Witness."

Jesus. Heaven’s Shepherd! (1 Peter 2:24-25)

As followers of Jesus, it is good for us to come back to the cross as a reminder of what our wonderful Shepherd has done for us. It should spur us on to a greater worship and desire to live for him. Rejoice, your Good Shepherd is looking out for you.

God Shows Up Every Time (Ruth 1:6-22) – Elaine

God sure cares a lot about his people. We mustn't underestimate the power of his grace. Sometimes we need a reminder when suffering that God is a God who is working all the time, even when we find it difficult to see him!! We can rest in knowing, God shows up every time.

Follow Christ in Doing Good (1 Peter 2:18-23)

When following Christ in doing good, that's often a path that leads to unjust suffering. But what an awesome opportunity to demonstrate the grace of God at work in our lives as we endure for the Lord's sake. Those around us see the evidence of a gospel that not only saves but sustains us until we are with Jesus.

Statue of Liberty (1 Peter 2:13-17)

Just as the Statue of Liberty symbolizes our freedom as US Citizens, Jesus wants Christians to live in such a way that we symbolize the freedom that we have in Christ. He wants us to be monuments of Christian liberty, which in turn is a witness for the power of the gospel to change lives.

Takes Surrender to Win (1 Peter 2:11-12)

The funny thing about spiritual warfare is that it takes surrender to win. Surrender not to the enemy or our temptations, but rather surrender to the Holy Spirit on an ongoing basis. That's how we assure ourselves victory in our Christians walk, which is an awesome witness of the gospels power to change lives.

Overcoming Identity Crisis (1 Peter 2:9-10)

Our true identity as Christians comes from who we are in Christ. In many ways we suffer from identity crisis in the church because we base our opinions and views of ourself and others based in past performance whether good or bad. That's not who we are. Our identity rest solely in who Christ is and what He is doing in and through us.

Coming into Focus (Refuge Vision)

As a hand full of years have past since Jesus started gathering a church called Refuge to Bradenton, He has been increasingly setting a vision on the heart of those called to plant this church. This year more than ever the vision is "Coming into Focus." In short, the vision is expressed in this simple phrase "Knowing Jesus! Making Jesus Known!" And to keep the body at Refuge on the correct path in achieving this vision, Jesus has given us a handful of guardrails to follow; Discipleship, Surrender, Servanthood, Authenticity, Worship & Witness. Sometimes we think we are holding onto something when the fact is, it's holding onto us and restraining us from moving freely in the Spirit of God, in the will of God, and in the power of God. Just as Lazarus was bound by his grave clothes, we too, as Christians, can be bound by lies, thought patterns, and lifestyles we allow in our lives. We are all wrapped up and bound until we just can't move freely. Just as Jesus (the Word of God, the Truth) called Lazarus out of the tomb saying, "Unbind Him & Let Him Go!" so the Truth is the ONLY ONE WHO can set US free, the only ONE who can make us Fully Free! Are you ready to be Unbound & Let Go? Are you ready to be Fully Free? (John 11:38-44)
